Three suspects in Nhaveen's death remanded for four days

GEORGE TOWN - Three suspects detained in the case of murder victim T. Nhaveen have been remanded for four days to assist in investigations over a separate extortion incident.

The three are among five youths who were arrested following the brutal attack against Nhaveen, 18, and his friend T. Previin, 19, in the incident that happened at Jalan Kaki Bukit, Bukit Gelugor on June 10.

The trio were brought to court at 11.12am Saturday for a remand application, which was granted by a magistrate's court here until Tuesday.

The other two suspects were brought to court Friday for investigations over a similar incident.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar said the duo, aged 16 and 17, were needed to shed light on another case related to extortion and rioting last month.

He said a 19-year-old youth claimed he was beaten and blackmailed by the suspects.

The complainant, ACP Anuar said, had lodged a report against the duo on May 5 but withdrew it three hours later.

The duo will be remanded until Monday to assist in investigation into the earlier extortion case which had happened on May 5.

The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 385 for extortion.
