Over 30 reports lodged against Papagomo for allegedly insulting Sarawak
Quoting Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor, The Borneo Post reported that the reports were lodged at 15 police stations against the man whose real name is Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, over his purportedly seditious remarks.
“We have opened an investigation paper regarding the police reports … Therefore, give us time to complete the investigation,” he was quoted saying.
He reportedly said that there were “technicalities involved” because the case in question involves social media.
The paper reported that Papagomo had allegedly insulted Sarawak in his post defending Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, following his spat with Sarawak's Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Abdul Karim previously urged Putrajaya to defer the July 1 implementation of the new tax for Sabah and Sarawak, saying the federal government should respect the Malaysia Agreement 1963 when deciding such matters.
The tax will be introduced on July 1 at a rate of between RM2.50 and RM25 per room right at hotels in the country.
Two days ago, deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the squabble between Nazri and the Sarawak and Sabah state governments over the tourism tax issue has been settled.
National newswire Bernama reported Zahid saying that the matter was discussed and it was agreed during the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday to end the row.
He reportedly said that during the meeting, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak decided that the matter be put to rest and all the parties involved, whether federal government or state government leaders, not to issue anymore statements on the matter.
