Kinrara robbery-and-rape victim lodges report

SERDANG - The woman who was raped by two armed robbers at an illegal gambling den in Bandar Kinrara last Thursday has come forward.

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias said the victim, a 33-year-old Indonesian woman, came to the district police headquarters here on Tuesday evening to lodge a report.

“Based on her report, she was working there with a Bangladeshi man when the incident occurred.

“The two suspects walked into the place when it was empty, pretending to be customers, then brandished knives and robbed the Bangladeshi man,” he told reporters at the district police headquarters here on Wednesday.

He said the suspects then focussed their attention on the woman and took turns raping her.

“The two suspects stole the identification and travel documents of both victims before fleeing the scene.

“The woman was afraid to come forward as she did not have any documents on her and had taken shelter at a friend’s house,” he said.

ACP Megat Mohamad Aminuddin said the victim will be taken to the Serdang Hospital for a thorough medical evaluation.

One of the two suspects has been arrested. The 26-year-old man was detained in Kuala Selangor at about 5.30pm on Sunday.

ACP Megat Mohamad Aminuddin said the suspect in custody has a prior record for robbery cases in the Klang Valley.

He added that police are conducting a manhunt for the second suspect.

The case was highlighted after a video clip showing two men entering a gambling den and later forcing themselves on a female worker went viral.

The owner of the shop lodged a police report at the Bandar Kinrara police station on May 13. The crime took place on May 11.

ACP Megat Mohamad Aminuddin said police were also investigating the illegal gambling den’s operations now.

“Based on our findings, the den has been operating for a month,” he added.
