Gabungan is focus on issues, not post

KOTA KINABALU - Gabungan Sabah (United Sabah Alliance) is focussing on the many pressing issues facing Sabah and preparing for the coming general elections and does not want to be distracted by the tussle for posts of any sort, including that of the opposition leader in the Legislative Assembly, said Datuk Mohd Noor Mansor.

Mohd Noor, who is Gabungan Sabah chairman said Gabungan remains focussed and it is not in disarray.

"The President of Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Lajim Hj. Okin, had told us that he would relinquish the post of opposition leader in the Sabah Legislative Assembly if that is the decision of the Gabungan Sabah. That was last month after Parti Harapan Rakyat and Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah had been admitted into the Gabungan Sabah.

"But, as the term of the assembly is already nearing its end, there is no need for any changes to be made. It is for this reason that no decision was made regarding the post of the opposition leader at meetings of the Gabungan Council," he explained.

The Gabungan Council consists of Datuk Hj Mohd Noor Hj Mansor as Chairman, the Presidents and four other members of each of the five parties, namely Parti STAR, SAPP, PCS, Parti Harapan Rakyat and Parti Perpaduan.

"Instead, prior to the assembly sitting last week, the Gabungan Council had (on March 21) discussed the matter of the RUU 355. It was the consensus that RUU355 should not be brought into the Sabah Legislative Assembly as it has been politicised in Malaya to suit their political agenda.
"This is also the position in Sarawak. Sabah has many other more pressing issues to tackle instead of being distracted by RUU355.

"RUU355 is not and should not be imported to Sabah as Sabah has our own Syariah laws. As such, when the Likas assemblyman tried to bring the RUU355 into the assembly debate, Datuk Lajim had to stop him as, not only is it in contravention of the Standing Orders, but it would also serve to import from Malaya into the Sabah Assembly a racial and religious issue that in the form of RUU355.

"Gabungan Sabah remains focussed on the issues facing Sabah, not on posts," he reiterated.
