Businesswoman shot more than 10 times

GEORGE TOWN – A businesswoman driving a white BMW was found dead with six gunshot wounds to the chest and head at Taman Pekaka 1, Sungai Dua, Gelugor yesterday, around 5.45pm.

The victim, Ruby Lee Poh Ai, 50, was found dead in the driver's seat of the car she had reportedly bought less than a year ago, according to Kosmo!

A resident in Tanjung Bungah, the victim was said to have run a shipping and logistics business in the country.

Penang CID chief Senior Asst Comm Zainol Samah said initial investigations found the victim was on her way home from work, heading towards George Town via the Sungai Dua route.

He said the incident occurred when two men on a motorcycle and wearing in dark clothes, pulled up beside her car, with the pillion rider firing shots.

"The suspect who was on a motorcycle is said to have fired more than 10 shots at the driver's side mirror, causing her car to skid and crash into the back of a patrol car ahead of it.

"The victim’s car then lost control and had hit the wall of a two-storey house near the scene. The victim was pronounced dead with six gunshot wounds," he told reporters.

The suspect fled after the ruthless shooting.

Elaborating further, Zainol said preliminary investigations found that the incident had nothing to do with any group of gangsters, while adding the victim is also not the wife of any datuk or datuk seri.

“This is not connected to the datuk seri,” he said refuting rumours that the victim was the wife of a gang leader who was recently charged.

"The investigation will also be carried out to determine whether the victim is pregnant or not. The body was then taken to the Penang Hospital for post-mortem.

"We will investigate this incident from various angles, including closed-circuit television footage (CCTV) at the scene. Police are actively tracking down the suspects," he explained. - mD
