Reform and Re-branding of STAR Sabah

KOTA KINABALU - STAR Sabah Chairman, Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, held a press conference here today to update the public on the reform and re-branding of the State Reform Party in Sarawak and it Sabah Chapter.

As has been disclosed recently, our STAR President, Mdm. Lina Soo, and STAR Sabah Chairman, Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, decided and agreed to reform and re-brand STAR in Sarawak and in Sabah.

Following is the statement released to the press:

"Pursuant to the said decision, STAR Sarawak called its EGM on 26 June 2016 where it was resolved to change its name from STATE REFORM PARTY (STAR) to SARAWAK REFORM PARTY (REFORM) focusing and confining REFORM party to Sarawak.   This move has encouraged STAR Sabah to do its own reform and re-branding.

STAR Sabah is now no longer a Sabah Chapter under the State Reform Party or now renamed Sarawak Reform Party but reformed and re-branded as a full-fledged Sabah-based political party under the name PARTI SOLIDARITI TANAH AIRKU, but maintaining the acronym “STAR”.
The re-branding exercise basically include the following: -

(a)    Logo – a 7-pointed Star with human element (handshake grip) to replace the 9-pointed star;
(b)    Name – emphasis on solidarity in line with need for unity and solidarity to be consistent with the slogan “Unity is Duty”;
(c)    Flag – new flag incorporating new Logo;
(d)    Focus on Sabah.

“REFORM” and “STAR” are now two (2) separate legal entities with their own Party Constitutions as approved by the Registrar of Societies (ROS).  STAR in Sabah is now truly a local party.
Along with the re-branding of STAR is a unique Constitution that allows for organizational membership meaning that NGOs and other political parties can also be members.
With its new membership criteria, Sabah existing political parties can now be united under STAR and use STAR’s symbol as a single symbol in the coming PRU-14.

What will “Solidariti Tanah Airku” mean?

-    One for All and All for One
-    It will further strengthen the Gabungan Sabah (USA) Coalition
-    May well provide a solution to different divided political groups in the opposition camp in Sabah
-    It is now a full-fledged political party focusing on Sabah.

STAR believes in the unity of all Sabahans and the concept of “SABAH FOR SABAHANS” and “SABAHANS FOR SABAH” and the restoration of Sabah’s autonomy and rights for the benefit of future generations.

“STAR Sabah and my personal struggles for the restoration of Sabah’s rights as an equal partner in the formation of Malaysia with special rights and safeguards are clear-cut and unequivocal.    However, in recent times, both detractors, troublemakers and traitors from both the ruling government and opposition parties have chosen to question and tarnish us.”

Issues that have been raised to deflect from our “perjuangan for Sabah rights” such as Article 6 of the Sabah constitution allegedly interpreted to be restricted to Sabah parties and the importation of the party from Sarawak are no longer in question.  The reform and re-branding of STAR in Sabah will answer them and laid to rest these false and malicious accusations.

Our struggles have been proven right and correct with the stand taken by the Federal and Sarawak governments to restore Sarawak’s autonomy and administrative powers.    Sabah’s position is no less inferior to Sarawak but the Sabah government has failed to show true leadership in seeking the restoration of Sabah’s autonomy and its rights and safeguards.

Therefore, it is imperative for all Sabahans irrespective of race, religion, ethnicity or political affiliation to unite in solidarity to seek the restoration of Sabah’s rights, privileges and safeguards as an equal partner in Malaysia and not as the 12th or 13th State in Malaya renamed as Malaysia.

With the reform and re-branding, STAR is here to stay and shining ever brighter as the platform with the Gabungan Sabah to champion the restoration of Sabah’s autonomy, rights and privileges.
INI KALI LAH!"
