Netizens circulate old Bersih rally photos

KUALA LUMPUR: Old photos of previous Bersih rallies have been going viral over social media networks in an apparent effort to drum up support for this weekend’s demonstration.

The photographs that have been shared on the various social media platforms and via Whatsapp showed a huge crowd clad in yellow T-shirts in the city centre, and many have been deceived into believing that there is already a huge crowd at the rally site.

The Bersih 4 illegal rally was scheduled to be held at 2pm today until midnight of Aug 30 at Dataran Merdeka and its vicinity.

Bersih 4 protesters started making their way to the designated gathering points as early as 11am today.

Small groups of protesters wearing yellow T-shirts were spotted near major city landmarks and roads here.

While it is too early to tell just how many will turn up, the numbers have not yet reached that of previous rallies.

A doctored image of the United States president Barack Obama and his wife Michelle holding up a Bersih T-shirt was also circulated on social networking sites.
