Khalid to stay as MB until replacement found

The Sultan has asked Pakatan Rakyat to nominate more than two candidates.

SHAH ALAM - The Sultan of Selangor has decreed that Abdul Khalid Ibrahim should stay as Menteri Besar until a replacement is found.

The Sultan’s private secretary, Mohamad Munir Bani, said in a press statement today that the Sultan has asked PAS, PKR and DAP to nominate more than two qualified candidates for the post.

“This is in accordance with established convention in the appointment of the Selangor Menteri Besar,” the statement said.

Observers see the statement as a rejection of PKR President Wan Azizah Ismail, but they expect her name to be included in the list of candidates to be submitted.

It is likely that Azmin Ali will also be nominated. He was one of PAS’s choices, along with Wan Azizah. But since the Sultan has asked for “more than two” names, the question now is who the third candidate will be. Pundits expect him to be from PAS.
